NASA News: Huge asteroid moving towards Earth is three times bigger than the Statue of Liberty
An asteroid thrice larger than the Statue of Liberty is moving towards Earth. Next month this asteroid will enter Earth's orbit. The US space agency NASA has told that the name of this asteroid is 2021 NY1. it's one among the 17 near-Earth objects that scientists are tracking for the last 60 days.
NASA said that the length of this asteroid is 300 meters and the thickness is around 130 meters. Whereas, the Statue of Liberty is barely 93 meters high. Currently this asteroid is running at a speed of 33659 kmph. Scientists have expressed hope that this asteroid will pass safely from a distance of 1497473 km from Earth. as an example, the Moon is at a distance of 384399 km from our Earth.
It is expected to enter Earth's orbit on September 22. Meanwhile, NASA is monitoring another asteroid. Its name is 2021 QC1. This small asteroid, 160 meters long and 71 meters thick, will pass over three million miles from Earth on September 1. Earlier this month, NASA said a brand new study raised the chance that the asteroid Bennu could hit Earth sometime by the year 2300.
NASA has placed it within the category of dangerous asteroid. This asteroid is that the third of 5 to come closer in recent times. it's estimated that this asteroid might be the scale of the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai. These days, NASA is keeping an eye fixed on two thousand asteroids which might become a threat to the world. If a high-speed space object is probably going to come closer than 46.5 million miles from Earth, then space organizations consider it dangerous. NASA's Sentry system already monitors such threats. In this, for the approaching 100 years, there are currently 22 such asteroids which have the slightest chance of hitting the world.
